Everyday Health Editorial Process
The Everyday Health Mission
Wellness inspired. Wellness enabled.
Our mission is to inspire and empower people to live their healthiest lives, every day. That’s not an easy task when readers are bombarded with health information — information that could be exaggerated, misleading, or inaccurate. How can they know where to place their trust?
We understand that when it comes to something as important as health, there is no room for error. We strive to cut through the “health noise” to deliver trusted, evidence-based health and medical information from the nation's leading healthcare providers and patient advocates at the center of care. Our editorial team and Health Expert Network adhere to the highest standards to ensure they are delivering high-quality content: It’s informed by the latest research and expert thinking, it supports you wherever you are in your health journey, and it’s created with empathy and understanding. We don’t lecture you or talk down to you. Wherever you are in your health journey, our goal is to be informative, helpful, and supportive. We want you to feel confident in our content, its accuracy, and its authenticity.
The Everyday Health Difference
Editorial Team and Writers
Everyday Health’s award-winning editorial team is dedicated to providing our users with the most accurate and trusted health and medical information to empower, educate, and inspire.
Our editors are subject matter experts dedicated to keeping up to date with the latest research, news, and trends in their topic areas. They also seek the opinions of medical experts, patient advocates, and patients to help shape their content and approach.
The editorial team ensures that our content meets the highest editorial standards for accuracy, balance, and objectivity as well as consistency of editorial style and voice. Our articles are written by health and medical journalists, patient advocates, and healthcare professionals who are also committed to these editorial standards.
Sources and References
Everyday Health creates timely, trustworthy content on the latest health information and medical research using only the most authoritative primary sources. This includes board-certified experts, peer-reviewed studies published in academic journals, advocacy organizations, patients and patient advocates, and health websites of leading research institutions and government organizations.
All factual information in stories is attributed to these sources in two ways. Links within the text go directly to the source of the information. We also list all sources at the end of our content along with links to the sources.
Our content goes through several steps of review before it is published. We work with highly credentialed writers who specialize in health topics and can communicate complex information in a clear and useful way. Our editors read the content for clarity, readability, and accuracy. Our team of board-certified medical reviewers fact-check and review all medical facts. Our copy editors ensure consistency and accuracy of editorial style as well as voice.
While we discourage the use of anonymous sources, some people may wish to remain anonymous for privacy reasons. We evaluate these requests on a case-by-case basis and clarify why they wish to remain anonymous in the content.
Any portion of content created by artificial intelligence will go through the same editorial processes as all other content: It will be edited, medically reviewed, fact-checked, and copy edited by our team of editors and medical experts according to our content guidelines.
Medical Review and Fact-Checking
Our Health Expert Network consists of board-certified physicians, patient advocates, medical and wellness experts, and other health professionals who contribute to the creation and review of content.
Reported content containing any statement of medical fact is reviewed by a specialist who is board-certified in the area relevant to the topic of the article. Medical review ensures that all content has the best and most current information; that information is medically and pharmacologically accurate; and that all factual statements about conditions, symptoms, treatments, prevention, standards of care, medical procedures and tests, and typical protocols are correct and up to date.
Any content that is not reviewed by our Health Expert Network is fact-checked by our editorial team to ensure all data, claims, names, and titles are accurate. This includes news content and first-person content such as blogs.
Everyday Health is committed to publishing content that reflects the diversity of our audience and is inclusive of all ages, genders, races, and religions. From the topics we choose to cover to the writers, sources, and medical reviewers involved in our content, we aim to incorporate diversity in all steps of the content creation process.
These goals are part of our company-wide diversity, equity, and inclusion initiative, “Doing Is Greater Than Talking.” By increasing awareness of the disparities and inequities in health and healthcare in an engaging, empathy-inspiring, helpful, and action-based way, we aim to influence change that will lead to affordable, high-quality healthcare access for all. In addition, we aim to provide inspiration and support to diverse communities, as well as be a destination for finding help.
Independence and Impartiality
We publish a correction when there is a factual error in a story.
Corrections are made directly in the article. Text at the bottom of the page clarifies what has been corrected, and why. If an error appears in content distributed through social media, we will remove the post. If you see an error, please let us know using the contact information listed below.
